me and the architecture

{Vicente Guallart image from BLDGBLOG}

There are semi-interesting discussions on whether this geologically based architecture is valid and about Guallart's general character on BLDGBLOG, but I really just like this 2D image. I also like seeing the visual thought process in something like "How to Make a Mountain."

I read The Fountainhead during a whole school year in college; I happened to go to a university (Ball State) which has a reputable architecture program, and I remember going into the building under the influence of Ayn Rand's cool prose and longing to be studying architecture instead of art. Instead, I married an architecture student who soon jumped ship and became an artist, and continued to follow architecture lightly as a side stream, drawing inspiration from its sometimes-arrogant but always invigorating idealisms and visual-spatial innovations.

P.S. Other food for thought in the organic, sociological range: Jenny Kendler and Joao Batista
