more of both.

I'm fascinated by the overarching response to my third pregnancy as inviting something unthinkably difficult into my life. I know the norm has shifted in our generation, but how many of you came from families of three or more kids? I experienced another version of this with my second pregnancy because my first two were spaced so closely (17 months). An almost derisive, "How could you let this happen?" warning about how I was going to have my hands full would often be strangers' response to my swelling belly. Well, I do. Have my hands full. And I don't regret it one bit. As one friend who has four kids said, "more chaos, more joy."

people say the darndest things. What's more disturbing, perhaps, is not just that they're thinking it, but that they're saying it.

We are so much more capable in the hands of the who knit us together (as he knits that little one in you), forming our capablities, allowing for weaknesses so he might be our strentgh. And so we do, we cry out in desperate, humbled states and so he does, he answers, sustains, lifts, fills, and does immeasureably more than we can ask or imagine.

I totally agree with your friend who has four kids. I'm the oldest of four and it was nothing short of a blast - and I know that my parents took a lot of flack for having a "big" family. (My late step-grandmother wouldn't even hold my youngest sister after she was born!)

Anyway, as a kid I felt sorry for the people who gaped at me when I told them there were six people in my family. They had no idea how much fun we had!

All this to say, congratulations. :)

i'm the oldest of four, too, and loved being in a family that size. and we were, i would say, just beyond the norm then. being at three kids is just beyond in this time period. but i consider all three of my siblings to be some of my best friends.

we couldn't be happier for you! & you'll be an example just ahead of us of a family of 5 (or 6, or 7), as we enter into that realm ourselves one day. you're pretty amazing role models for us! & we also think the mike & marti garrels family was a blast to grow up in!
